OUR MISSION
At WAVE, we believe that a high quality education taught by passionate educators is not solely found in a brick and mortar 8am-3pm setting. WAVE students, kindergarten through 12th grade, have the opportunity to work at a place and a pace that fits their individual needs.
WAVE, or Wausau Area Virtual Education, is a Public Charter School in the Wausau School District. We're committed to offering flexible and engaging learning options for students in grades K-12 to students across Wisconsin.

Ellie Mason spoke with grace and confidence and her message was so wonderful that it brought so many of us in the audience to tears. She even received a standing ovation—a well-deserved moment that made the entire Wausau School District beam with pride!

This award recognizes female high schoolers who excel in science and math, while encouraging their involvement in engineering.

The 11th Annual Lumberjack Hall of Fame was held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 and East High celebrated an outstanding group of honorees.

Mr. Hughes, who has served the Wausau School District for many years, is recognized not only for his fierce advocacy in the classroom—operating under the philosophy, "We never quit on kids"—but also for his extensive servant leadership in the community.

Travis is a third-generation coach for the Warriors, bringing a deep understanding of the program's rich history and a proven track record of success. For the past 11 years, he's been an integral part of the Wausau West hockey team as an assistant coach, contributing to 5 Wisconsin Valley Conference Championships and 4 WIAA State appearances, including a runner-up finish.

Brian Bednarczyk has a profound and distinguished career in hockey. “Coaching is something I have always wanted to do, and the timing is right for me and my family. I am honored to have been selected as the Head Coach. I look forward to meeting all the players, parents and fans of EMU hockey and look forward to working with the Wausau and Merrill communities. I’ve had a lot of experience playing the game and it feels like the right time to start giving back to the community.”

The Resolution of Commendation Program provides the Board of Education with a formal process of recognizing students and staff who have brought honor upon themselves and the District through outstanding achievement and/or community service.

For the second consecutive year, Nolan Travis, a recent graduate of Wausau West High School, has been selected to represent the Overture Center's Jerry Awards Program at the 16th annual Jimmy Awards ceremony. The national competition will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, in New York City.
